Women who are addicted to Facebook can now blame it on their genes. Scientists have found that internet addiction is hereditary. You might ask yourself how this is possible when the internet has only been around for less than a generation. The University of Bonn in America found a gene in people who could not drag themselves away, most were women.
After interviewing more than 800 people about their internet habits and the impact that it has on their lives, they then looked at the genetic makeup of 132 of these people. These were the people that they found were most addicted to the net they compared them to a “healthy” control group. Many of the 132 people they looked at had the same genetic variant which has previously been linked to nicotine addiction. The data shows that there are clear indications for genetic causes of internet addiction however more studies would be needed. If these connections were better understood this would mean better results in treatment centres like rehab.
