Private Alcohol Addiction Treatments may Rise in Hull

It seems that private alcohol addiction treatments may become more frequent within East Yorkshire. Reports from the region suggest that a growing number of children are being born to women with severe alcohol addictions. As well as alcohol, women giving birth to children are also suffering from dependency of a variety of drugs, from prescribed medicines to cannabis and heroine.

Private Alcohol Addiction Treatments may Rise in Hull

Since 2010, the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust have noted 104 births where the mother suffered from some form of chemical addiction.

The news has alarmed drug workers within the region, with some calling for more efforts towards earlier cases of intervention. Certainly it would seem that the amount of births amongst alcoholic women is slowly yet steadily climbing. Within 2011, the Trust reported only one birth from a mother known to suffer from alcohol addiction. At the start of this year, this has risen to six.

It is a common fact amongst midwives that the chemicals imbibed during pregnancy have an acute impact on developing children within the womb. Numerous complications, including serious damage to the placenta and the foetus, are but two examples of the risks alcoholic women are taking. In extreme cases, chronic alcohol abuse can result in severe deformities, mental disabilities or even miscarriage or stillbirth.

Certainly, it asks the question whether they can truly be said to be ready for childbirth.

There has been a call from numerous workers within the health industry for further earlier intervention for women suffering from alcoholism, including easier access to private alcohol addiction treatment. The earlier an addiction is acted upon, the more effective treatment can be and the greater chances of reducing the damage done to the child at the end of the pregnancy. Whether this is professional counselling, holistic packages or greater access to support groups, there certainly needs to be greater action to prevent this trend from growing out of control.

Health and social workers work with a wide variety of support agencies dedicated to identifying women suffering from alcohol dependency and assisting them to find effective private alcohol addiction treatment. There are a large number of such groups throughout Britain, each one working to assisting women as early as possible in their pregnancy.

We Do Recover is one such group offering private alcohol addiction treatment, and can be accessed through their website. They can also be phoned directly by calling 0800 955 4357.
